Editor: Reproductive rights still a major issue on International Women’s Day

In the realm of women’s rights, some say society seems to move two steps forward before going one step back with victories such as the passage of the Violence Against Women Act and setbacks such as the passage in Arkansas of one of the most stringent anti-abortion laws.

With the subject of women’s rights, and in particular women’s reproductive rights, constantly in the news, Katherine Spillar, executive editor of Ms. Magazine, says women must become more active in order to demand a greater voice and protect their rights.

Despite Friday marking International Women’s Day, Spillar believes women must act every day to ensure progress.

Host Jamila Bey spoke with Spillarto to look at the state of American women on the eve of this holiday.
